There aren't a lot of books out there for the ADHD Inattentive mind. We've found some that have really given us insight, and we are happy to pass them along to you:
The Myth of Laziness--talks about children who "somehow, somewhere lose momentum; in the pursuit of accomplishment they fail to produce; they stall out. And often they face accusations of laziness. .They are not lazy; they have output failure." The book introduces seven children as Dr. Levine helps them to understand and cope with their learning differences. One of the chapters takes an in-depth look into dysgraphia. Highly recommended.
A Mind at A Time--Dr. Mel Levine describes how each child learns differently by defining eight mind systems, then giving solutions for when things go awry. The book has more information on inattention than any other we have read.
How to Reach and Teach ADD/ADHD Children; practical techniques, strategies, and interventions for helping children with attention problems and hyperactivity. The operative word here is practical. I have used many of the ideas in this great book at home and at school!
Recent research has suggested that many people with ADHD and learning differences suffer from a dietary deficiency of fatty acids. In her book The LCP Solution, Jacqueline Stordy cites studies where supplementing the diet with LCPs has produced improvement in children's focus, learning, and levels of anxiety.
Driven to Distraction-- written by two doctors with ADHD, this book is primarily about adult ADHD, but it provides good insight into the disorder, as well as ways for parents to help their child. An audio cassette is also available.
Is This Your Child?, by Doris Rapp, gives suggestions about how reactions to foods and environmental factors can be recognized, prevented, and treated. With this information, children with food allergies may feel, act, behave, and learn better.
What's Food Go to Do with It? gives a broad overview foods which often cause allergic reactions. The ADD Nutrition Solution offers substitutes for these and other problem foods, and a way to isolate items that aggravate symptoms.
